Thank goodness there’s someone on the Tribune sports staff who makes a lot of sense–Bob Verdi. His column on the women’s Olympic softball finals touched my heart (“Is this really the Olympics?” Sports, July 31). The girls are truly a dream team. I’m sick to death of overpaid hotshots, underpaid talent, bickering sports shoe companies and 17-year-old millionaires. The public is bombarded with commercialism, and, unfortunately, sports is becoming more and more the center of it all. It’s a vicious circle that keeps getting bigger.
It was a relief to see the women’s softball team play. They’re worth their weight in gold.
