Crop conditions as of Aug. 1 point to a less-than-bumper harvest this fall, says veteran Chicago private analyst Conrad Leslie. Citing late planting and below-normal temperatures in the early part of the growing season in making his estimate based on a survey of grain elevator managers, Leslie projected an 8.97 billion-bushel corn crop and 2.24 billion bushels for soybeans.
