On July 29 I tried to deposit a check at my bank in Skokie. I arrived at 8 a.m. by bus. I circled the bank looking for a walk-up window. Not seeing one, I walked over to the drive-up window and tried to deposit my check. I was told by a woman teller that I had to be in a car to be served. I explained that I did not have one, that I had taken the bus.
The woman told me that I would have to wait until the lobby opened at 9 to be served. I explained that I started work at 9 and could not wait. She refused to serve me. I requested a supervisor, who arrived and told me that unless I left immediately, he would call the police.
I asked for his name and the woman’s name who first refused to serve me. He refused to give me their names and called the police, who told me that if I did not leave immediately, I would be arrested.
I was treated like a criminal. The police stayed and watched me until I got onto a bus and left. I probably would have received more respect if I had robbed the bank. Luckily I was not arrested.
Banking seems to have become a customer terrorist zone.
