The changing of the pools will be marked by two ceremonies, one to say goodbye to the old swimming hole, and a second to launch construction of an aquatic center scheduled to open next year.

A closing ceremony will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Twin Pools, in Manor Park, 1140 Central Ave., which has served the city since 1962. Admission is free, and hot dogs and ice cream will be on sale at opening-day prices. Offerings include a wading pool, a fishing derby, caricatures, raffle prizes and relay races.

The beginning of construction of the aquatic center will be marked by a groundbreaking at 10 a.m. Aug. 26 at Manor Park.

The new center will have a zero-depth entry pool, slide, water playground areas, two water slides, a six-lane lap pool and a diving board.

A contest will help determine a name for the new center. Suggestions should be mailed to Valerie Lorimer, 636 Ridge Rd., Highland Park, Ill. 60035.
