Deere earnings top expectations: Moline-based Deere & Co. said its third-quarter earnings rose 13 percent as higher grain prices and government subsidies to farmers boosted demand for the company’s agricultural equipment. Net income rose to $204 million, or 79 cents a share, in the quarter ended July 31, from $180.1 million, or 69 cents, in the year-ago period.
