A 30-year-old Aurora man was listed in critical condition Monday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood a day after being hacked with a machete, allegedly by a housemate.

Late Sunday afternoon, police were called to the 100 block of North East Avenue, where they found Khanh Pham suffering from head, neck and arm wounds.

While Pham stood in front of one apartment building, Kayvona Khamsouane, 34, stood on another corner holding a bloody machete, police said. Khamsouane, who was arrested after a brief struggle with police, was being held Monday in lieu of $1 million bail at the Kane County Jail.

Police said they did not know why the attack happened.
