Real estate self-promoter Donald Trump, who has done his bit to blot out the sun with high-rise slabs in Manhattan, wants to cap his career by restoring the bragging rights for the world’s tallest building to the good old U.S. of A.

Patriotic though it would be, Trump probably has more than altruism in mind. The major tenant would be the New York Stock Exchange, which is looking for bigger quarters than available at its venerable 11 Wall St. location.

Trump’s proposal would put a 140-story tower on a site at the end of Wall Street and the East River. The 1,792-foot-tall building (in honor of the Big Board’s founding in 1792) would have 3.5 million square feet of office space and house up to 100,000 workers.

Sears Tower in Chicago lost the tallest title earlier this year to an office complex in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
