A Gary man known as the “pillowcase rapist,” because he covered his victims’ heads with pillowcases to hide his identity, was charged Monday in Indiana with two sexual attacks.
Reginald Muldrew, 48, who was found severely beaten earlier this month after an alleged sexual attack, remains in serious condition in Methodist Hospital in Gary, a hospital spokesman said.
Muldrew was charged with one count of criminal deviate conduct, one count of burglary and one count of confinement in connection with a June 24 incident, the prosecutor’s office in Lake County, Ind., announced Monday.
Muldrew also was charged with one count of burglary, one count of robbery and one count of confinement in connection with the Aug. 5 incident in which he was beaten.
Authorities have been unable to talk to Muldrew because of his injuries.
Muldrew has been in Gary since December when he was released from a California prison after serving 17 years of a 25-year sentence on sexual assault charges. He had been linked to about 200 sex crimes in the Los Angeles area from 1976 to 1978, authorities said.
