Cambridge Homes cannot have a final plat approval for its proposed Apple Country subdivision until it presents to Wauconda a letter of credit, a road-building permit and a contract stating it will sell 25 acres to the Lake County Forest Preserve.

Those documents were missing from the package the Libertyville-based developer presented to the Wauconda Village Board at Tuesday night’s meeting, said Mayor James Eschenbauch.

Trustees voted 4-1 against giving final approval to the application, despite a company official’s plea that a delay could make it impossible to finish important work before the first frost.

“I’m desperate,” said Jerry Conrad, a vice president at Cambridge Homes. “I really need to get started on the work. I need to do to get this project ready for winter.”

Apple Country is to have 95 homes northwest of Bonner and Fairfield Roads.
