Joseph J. Butzen, 101, a World War I Army infantry veteran, died Friday in the Ballard Nursing Pavilion in Des Plaines. In his younger years, Mr. Butzen joined his father and brothers in a family painting and decorating business. When the business closed, he went to work as a truck driver for the Cook County Highway Department, a job he held for more than 30 years. Survivors include two sons, Paul and Albert; a daughter, Helen Wilson; two sisters; two brothers; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 1571 Maple Ave., Evanston. Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Nicholas Church, 806 Ridge Ave., Evanston.
