Never much of a guy thing, plastic surgery is suddenly very hot among men.

Driven by workplace fears and, in some cases, by the need to market themselves romantically, middle-aged men are getting face lifts and other reconstructive surgery in droves.

“This is just in the last couple of years,” says a spokesperson for the Arlington Heights-based American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, who says the trend is so new the data haven’t been fully tabulated.

But plastic surgeon Craig Bradley reports that in his practice, he’s seen a 60 percent jump in facial cosmetic surgery among males since ’94 and a 300 percent hike in abdominal liposuction, while surgeon Richard Sperling reports a spurt of 12 percent.

“Most tell me they feel threatened by younger men taking their jobs, or they’re re-entering the dating scene after a divorce and want to try and level the playing field a bit,” says Sperling.
