Teachers in Wilmette School District 39 voted Friday to set a Sept. 16 strike date after rejecting the administration’s latest contract offer. The district’s 220 teachers have been negotiating since March for higher salaries and improved working conditions, said Dick Miller, president of the teachers association. District 39 serves about 3,000 students in six elementary schools.
