Peter Berghoff, owner of the Berghoff Restaurant in downtown Chicago, will be honored as Donor of the Year during the Pacific Garden Mission’s 119th anniversary celebration. Berghoff is credited with helping to feed thousands of men, women and children who are served by the mission’s four facilities in Chicago.

The celebration is expected to attract nearly 2,000 people, including City of Chicago Human Services Commissioner Daniel Alvarez. He will assist in honoring Berghoff and other recipients of the Mission’s Beacon of Hope and Red Apple Awards.

Founded in 1877 by Colonel and Mrs. George R. Clake, Pacific Garden Mission also operates outreach programs in Cook County Hospital and the Juvenile Detention Center.

The awards will be presented at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones Metropolitan High School, 646 S. State St. The Mission also will conduct an open house and free tours from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information or free parking accommodations, contact Pacific Garden Mission at 312-922-1462.
