Thank you for you discerning editorial (“A sensible act of accommodation” Sept. 4) recognizing the rights of Christian Scientists to receive Medicare/Medicaid benefits for nursing care at Christian Science Nursing Facilities.

A letter published on this matter (“End funds for Christian Science care,” Voice, Sept. 23) was misleading and bears no resemblance to the high quality of Christian Science nursing practiced at Hill Top Center, the Chicago-area Christian Science Nursing Facility, since its founding in 1946.

The preparation to become a Christian Science nurse is thorough and extensive. It involves two to three years of on-the-job experience and supervision.

Lake County health officials have publicly acknowledged the exceptional quality of nursing care that Hill Top Center provides.
