– Telephone & Data Systems Inc. reported third-quarter earnings dropped 47 percent, to $22.7 million, or 36 cents a share, from $42.6 million, or 72 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. The Chicago-based phone company said revenues rose 23 percent, to $315.9 million from $256.5 million.

For the nine months, profits grew 32 percent, to $115.3 million, or $1.89 a share, from $86.9 million, or $1.49 a share. Revenues rose 26 percent, to $878.3 million from $698.6 million.
