Recently I have been hearing more and more people talk about how the Chicago Transit Authority may shut down late-night train service. Aside from the obvious fact that there are a great deal of Chicagoans whose jobs require them to ride the trains late at night, I tend to wonder if they have given any thought to the increase in alcohol-related auto accidents (not to mention fatalities) that shutting down these trains would cause.

Chicago is a world-class city with a spectacular night life. I know quite a few people who, after a night of partying, ride the train to get back home safe and sound. Shutting down the CTA night-owl trains would be a big mistake with potentially tragic results.
