Lake Forest Place, under construction in the north suburb, provides a glimpse of the future of senior-citizen housing with its continuing care concept, which focuses on independent living yet provides varying levels of health care for those who need it.
A 250-unit project on 49 acres, which will also include a 30-unit assisted-living center and a 56-room nursing facility, Lake Forest Place is a development of Presbyterian Homes, a not-for-profit organization that operates a similar campus at Westminster Place in Evanston.
The first foundations for the 168 apartments and 82 cottages in the $124.7 million project are expected to be poured next spring. Deposits have already been taken on 245 of the units. Plans calls for the campus to be completed in two years.
Both one- and two-bedroom apartments will be available, as well as the two-bedroom cottages. Entrance fees for the apartments start at $120,800, and $310,200 for the cottages. Monthly fees in the apartments, starting at $1,378, include 20 meals per month, housekeeping, transportation and other amenities.
The heart of the campus will be the community center, which will include dining room, indoor swimming and health club, library, lecture hall, craft/hobby shops, card room and chapel.
Lake Forest Place is at Waukegan and Westmoreland roads.
