Just in time for Halloween comes “The Devil’s Familiar,” a new “comedy of horrors” by the Griffin Theatre team of writer William Massolia and director Richard Barletta. The plot thickens immediately when a failed young Boston seminarian (Mark Moran) renounces his faith and teams up with The Tempter (Michael Curtis), a cackling, green-skinned monster from the underworld. Transported to backwater Florida, they find lust and death and “The Big Fisherman” (Chris Bruzzini), a drunk who has been selected by the Greek god Prometheus (don’t ask) to do away with The Tempter. There is much scenery chewing, some of it fun and witty, lots of thunder and lighting, and far too many characters before the happy ending. It would make a nifty serio-camp TV horror movie.
