I’m an eighth-grader at Shephard Junior High School and am writing in response to your Sept. 30 article on 6-year-old Jonathan Prevette, who was punished for kissing a girl classmate on the cheek in their North Carolina school.
In our current society, children are expected to grow up too fast. I believe they should be able to retain their innocence. If Jonathan had simply smacked the girl on the head, he would have been reprimanded and nothing more. But when he complies with a 6-year-old girl’s request for a kiss, he’s suspended and charged with sexual harassment. Jonathan probably doesn’t even know the meaning of sexual harassment.
Besides, the girl requested a kiss, yet she is not being punished. This tells me that it’s okay to ask for a kiss but not to give one. This doesn’t seem right. None of it seems right.
