Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We really dig dance, and we think the Dance Chicago festival, running through Dec. 1, is just divine. But if you want to dance to a different drummer, check out “Plies and Pastels,” which takes place at the Art Institute at 12:15 and 1:30 p.m. Thursday. A real-live dancer will re-create poses from Degas’ paintings, and audience members are encouraged to grab their sketch pads and start drawing. (Free with museum admission; call 312-443-3680.)

Or head on over to Add Water & Stir, an improvisational modern dance company performing at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Cafe Voltaire, 3231 N. Clark St. (Tickets are $5. Call 312-871-5806 for reservations.) The dancers take their cues from the audience, which offers up words and ideas. Even the music’s improvised.
