They always have had a lot of awards in the NBA. There’s the most valuable player award and the rookie of the year award, the most improved player award and the citizenship award, even something called the IBM award and the Bausch & Lomb NBA Court Vision Award. But they never had an award to honor sportsmanship. They might never have had one if Joe Dumars hadn’t come along. I think he made the award necessary.
