Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Your significant other seems depressed. Your attempts to get him to talk about it have failed. What to do? Try these techniques offered by psychologist Laura Epstein Rosen in the November issue of New Woman magazine:
– Don’t demand he spill his guts. Instead coax him into communication by asking multiple-choice questions such as “Are you feeling angry or sad?”
– Don’t share too much of your own experience. “For instance if you say `Oh, I felt this way once too,’ many men will get competitive with you and say, `Oh, mine is much worse,’ ” Rosen says. “Or they’ll shut down.”
