The Village Board has avoided a work stoppage at the proposed Kelley Park by allowing the Hoffman Estates Park District to change the location of a detention basin to serve the facility.
The Park District originally was issued a village permit to grade part of the 23-acre site near Bartlett and Shoe Factory Roads on the condition that an athletic field be dropped 3 feet so it could be used for detention.
Athletic associations objected last week, saying a waterlogged field would be unsafe for play.
As an alternative, a special committee addressing the issue agreed that a detention basin owned by the adjacent Estates of Deer Crossing subdivision could be used if it were expanded.
