My congratulations to Channel 5! Of the three major Chicago TV networks, theirs was the only one whose commentators didn’t talk over every bit of fine music played and sung at the Nov. 20 funeral of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. They let the music and picture speak for themselves.
When Gabriel Faure’s ethereal “Cantique de Jean Racine,” an awe-inspiring piece of music, was sung as the recessional, I could hardly believe my ears as I heard the TV in another room on another channel, its commentators gabbing all the way through it.
Thanks, Channel 5!
