Glen Ellyn trustees have given their approval to move forward on the 50-acre Baker Hill plan for town homes and commercial space at Roosevelt Road and Illinois Highway 53.

The Glen Ellyn Village Board unanimously approved motions directing the development of the preliminary site plan and the preparation of an ordinance authorizing a sales-tax rebate of up to $1 million.

Required renovations to Roosevelt Road necessitate the funding, said Kurt Wandrey, of developer Town & Country Homes.

The proposal includes 190 town homes grouped in four- and six-unit buildings. Town & Country presented three styles and plans for saving legacy oak trees.

Residents who spoke were divided in their opinions.

Trustees acknowledged that the site plan is not perfect.

“But it has come a long way and we can live with it,” said Trustee Vicky Hase.
