On Dec. 14 you printed a letter from a reader who said that “Beetle Bailey” is not funny and neither are “Fred Basset,” “Cathy” and “Hi and Lois.”

Even before I got to his name, I knew the writer was a man. Of course, he didn’t think “Cathy” was funny; he doesn’t get it. I know many women who think “Cathy” is very funny and very true. It is one of the strips we often cut out and post in our homes and offices, the way engineers post “Dilbert.”
