Cross-examination is scheduled to resume in the trial of Stanley Berg, 56, accused of torching his lakefront house in Lake Bluff to collect the insurance money. The fire gutted Berg’s 17,000-square-foot mansion at 117 Shore Acres Drive. It took 79 firefighters, four of whom were injured, to extinguish the blaze. If convicted, Berg faces a penalty of 3 to 7 years in prison.
