A House committee cleared a bill to boost the state minimum wage Tuesday, setting up competition with a Senate bill which would do essentially the same thing.
The bill cleared the House Labor and Occupational Safety Committee on a 10-0 vote. It now goes to the full House.
Meanwhile, the full Senate began discussing a GOP-sponsored bill to raise the wage. It won approval last week in the Senate Human Resources and Labor Committee.
Both bills would raise the state minimum wage from $3.35 an hour, first to $4.75 an hour and then to $5.15 an hour. Exact dates for the raises still must be set, as must language dealing with a “training wage” for new employees.
