The village has given the go-ahead for a developer to convert Ebel’s Ace Hardware, 30 S. Lincoln St., into six retail stores.

The developer, Hinsdale Chestnut LLC, is planning to convert the approximately 13,000-square-foot store into units to be occupied by Blockbuster Video, Mailboxes Etc., the Great American Bagel, Area Cellular, a dry cleaner and one other tenant.

The village approved amendments to the site plan, exterior-appearance plan and planned development and authorized a sign waiver allowing 50 square feet on Lincoln and 115 square feet on Chestnut Street. Letters on the Blockbuster sign will be blue. Letters on all other signs will be white.
