Jon Anderson’s article on the Chicago stockyards (” `Hog butcher for the world’ opens shop/City’s meatpacking industry converges at the stockyards,” MetroChicago, Jan. 30) was very well written and informative.

It also brought back fond memories.

Near the end of the article, it said that “it became commonplace that Chicago packers used every part of the hog but its squeal.”

I beg to differ on this–they also used the “squeal” to blow the noon whistle!
