Like a president, new Jets coach Bill Parcells has had four-year terms. In his fourth season as the New York Giants’ coach, they won Super Bowl XXI. Four seasons later, the Giants won Super Bowl XXV. And in his fourth season as the Patriots’ coach, they went to Super Bowl XXXI. To be fair, the Jets’ loyalists shouldn’t expect a Super Bowl team until the 2000 season, but after nearly 30 years of frustration since Joe Namath’s guarantee, even another four years would be worth the wait.
