Harvard High School needs renovation, according to a consultant on the state of District 50 schools.

Thomas Glass, a professor at Northern Illinois University, took a close look at the schools and reported his findings to the district’s Facilities Committee.

“I totally agree with him that the high school needs money spent on it,” said committee Chairman Bill Crowe. “It hasn’t been touched since it was built in some areas.”

Glass also reported that the libraries were not adequate and that Central School was too old to be compatible with current teaching methods, Crowe said.

Next on the agenda is a review of life-safety reports and what upgrades the schools need, Crowe said.

“This will make the committee more familiar with the buildings,” Crowe said.
