The New Lenox Village Board is expected to vote Wednesday to adopt an updated comprehensive plan.

The plan, which was developed over the last year and a half at a series of meetings, received a recommendation for approval from the New Lenox Plan Commission earlier this month, and aims to manage the town’s rapid residential growth while preserving a small-town atmosphere and spurring economic development.

The plan requires more open space and lower population density as development moves out from the center of town.

The area around the proposed intersection of Interstate Highways 355 and 80 is targeted for commercial development.
