A Newaygo County man who fired at least 50 shots during a 10-hour standoff with police was coaxed from his home early Monday and captured.
“It didn’t appear he was firing directly at us. . . . There were 50 to 60 (shots) or better,” Newaygo Police Chief Keith Wismar said.
The incident started at 9 p.m. Sunday when the man called 911. An officer appeared at the house, and the shots started flying. The man’s father arrived but he, too, was threatened, Wismar said.
The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to a Fremont hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
