U.S. institutional investors –insurance and investment firms, pension funds and trust departments–control $11.1 trillion in assets, up 5.7 percent from $10.5 trillion at the end of 1995, and about 76 percent more than the $6.3 trillion they held in 1990, the Conference Board, a nonprofit business research group, says.
