Regarding Betsy Shuman-Moore’s comments (Voice, March 7) on Mike Royko’s column of Feb. 18. Ms. Shuman-Moore pleads for more responsible journalism, but I think this lawyer needs a lesson in more responsible criticism.

Part of this column–the part addressed by Ms. Shuman-Moore–focuses on the utterly stupid and clearly bigoted hate phone message Frank left for lawyer Melvin Kaplan and the punishment Frank received for it.

But I see nothing in Ms. Shuman-Moore’s letter that deals with the other part of Royko’s column, in which he reports that lawyer Kaplan has sued Frank for emotional stress, punitive damages and attorney’s fees–all from listening to a phone message. Oh, come on!

Here’s a heads-up for lawyers Kaplan and Shuman-Moore: If you ever wonder why there are so many lawyer jokes going around, examine thy own house.
