No way were we gonna stay up to watch the entire Academy Awards ceremony last night. We had better things to do (like snooze). Besides, we already had tabulated the results of the awards that count: our own Kiddie Awards poll. Back in January, we asked KidNews readers to tell us their fave actors, shows, music, reading, clothes and food.
If we were to create a Kiddie Award-winning movie, packed with readers’ faves, here’s what it might look like:
SCENE 1
Setting: It’s Independence Day, in a town somewhere in the Midwest.
Enter: Christina Ricci and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Jonathan flicks on the TV and turns to “The Simpsons.”
Christina: “Don’t you think Dennis Rodman’s hair and clothes are so, so rad?”
Jonathan: “Sure, but…”
Bart Simpson: “Don’t have a cow…”
Newscaster’s voice: “We interrupt this broadcast to announce that aliens have just begun attacking Earth…”
SCENE 2
Background music: No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak.”
Jonathan and Christina run around the house frantically grabbing “X-Men” comic books, Seventeen magazines, “Goosebumps” books and a Nintendo 64 (with a couple of Super Mario games). Then they head for shelter.
Jonathan: “This truly is a tragic kingdom we’re living in!” Just then, aliens strike.
SCENE 3
Setting: Gutted house.
Christina and Jonathan try to emerge from the rubble, but are trapped.
Enter: Sandra Bullock and Tom Cruise.
Sandra: “We’ll save you!”
Tom: “Hold on!” He and Sandra pull JTT and Christina free.
SCENE 4
Setting: The aliens have left, and Tim Allen is fixing up homes in the neighborhood.
Tim: “I deserve a break today! Let’s go grab some burgers, fries and Cokes at McDonald’s.”
