Regarding the letter from Melissa Walker titled “A sporting chance” (Voice, March 21):
She was so right about the lack of coverage of women’s sports in Chicago–it is appalling. The Tribune, however, is better than it used to be; at least now you can find the tournament scores listed for women’s golf and, every once in a while, a small article.
The TV coverage, however, is non-existent. One year the Women’s Open was broadcast on network TV, and the affiliate station here never even mentioned it–instead, they interviewed Mike Ditka on the golf course. Laura Davies recently tied a golf record, held by Gene Sarazen and Walter Hagen, by winning the same tournament four years in a row. Channel 2 never even mentioned it, but they did mention that Tiger Woods tied for seventh at Bay Hill. Maybe Chicago needs a female sportscaster!
