Robert Alexander Sweeney, 79, a Cook County Circuit Court judge for more than 30 years, died Friday at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. A member of the Loyola University class of 1938, he served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II before graduating from the John Marshall School of Law in 1950. A member of the Illinois Bar Association and the Nordic Law Club of Chicago, he became a Cook County associate judge in 1953 and retired in 1984. Judge Sweeney is survived by his son, Robert; daughter, Karen Ann; and a granddaughter. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Stirlen-Pieper Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St., Barrington. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 120 Ela St., Barrington.
