Lee Iacocca has put the brakes on an ad campaign.
The former Chrysler executive objected to newspaper advertisements showing him as a pitchman for a long-distance telephone company started by a longtime friend in Florida. They were done without his consent, Iacocca said.
“If you liked his cars, you’re going to love his long-distance service,” said the ads for Intercontinental Communications Long Distance, which also show Iacocca’s signature.
The Delray Beach-based company is run by Robert Brown, a former magazine editor and a longtime friend of Iacocca’s.
“I was really blindsided,” Iacocca said. “I picked up a copy of the paper and almost passed out.”
