Thank you for your excellent editorial concerning the legislative efforts to bring about true education reform, particularly in the area of school nurses. It is hard to imagine how any kind of “education reform” can be passed in Illinois unless basic, common-sense efforts like the school nurse issue are resolved.
Unfortunately, two attempts by me in the House Elementary and Secondary Education Committee were rebuffed through strong pressure from teachers unions. Even with the support of the committee’s courageous Chairman Rep. David Phelps, and Paul Vallas, CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, my closest effort fell two votes short.
