Why is it that the people with the strongest convictions and most certainty are the people who don’t understand the subject? I am referring to the letter from Gerald M. Freeman (“Global what?” Voice, April 22) that tries to convince us that there is no global warming because it got cold last winter.

His mistake was to treat global warming as a political issue. It is a measurement, neither liberal nor conservative, Republican nor Democrat. The temperature is taken at various points of the globe and an average calculated. Over the years this average has increased. Mr. Freeman might as well argue with his thermometer.
