School administrators have been asked to stay home for one day this month, without pay, to help ease the district’s financial problems.
The one-day closing of Holt’s 10 public schools is scheduled for May 23. About 5,350 students would be affected.
Supt. Mark Maksimowicz said the move would save $125,000 in salaries, enough to erase the $94,000 deficit facing the district.
The four unions that represent most of the district’s 800 employees will poll their memberships on the one-day closing.
Maksimowicz said the school does not have a backup plan.
