I read with astonishment the article concerning the refusal of the Senate to allow a guide dog into the chambers (“Violation of law charged as Senate bars dog,” Main news, April 15).

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised.

Guide dogs, service dogs and therapy dogs are eager, hard-working, intelligent and honest members of society. That they are essential to the lives of thousands of people is indisputable. I wonder if the Senate would bar the presence of a police K-9 unit if some emergency should arise in the Senate’s hallowed chambers.
