Some interesting items on display at the recently opened Altered States exhibit at the Chicago Historical Society: snuff jars, cocaine spoons, opium pipes, hypodermic syringes, an 1898 model of a heroin addict’s arm. Needless to say, the exhibition is a chilling look at alcohol and other drug use in America, from the 1600s to today.
