Chicago-based Ameritech Corp. said it was connecting three research institutes through an asynchronous transfer mode network, a high-speed data transport. Ameritech said the network offers connectivity at speeds of 155 megabits per second. The research centers are the University of Illinois at Chicago, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Argonne National Laboratory.
