Stanley E. Unander, 87, a retired Chicago police officer, died Tuesday in DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton. Mr. Unander was a resident of Lombard for 10 years and lived in Monee and Chicago, where he was born. He earned a bachelor’s degree in math from the University of Chicago and later worked for the Chicago Police Department. He retired as a sergeant from the police force in 1967 after serving 30 years. Mr. Unander was also a member of the Lombard Gospel Chapel. He is survived by three sons, Eric, Curt and Alan; a daughter, Bette Smillie; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Lombard Gospel Chapel, 369 N. Stewart Ave., Lombard.
