One of the comforting statistics encountered in Cable Television Developments, published by the Washington-based National Cable Television Association: Only 66 percent of TV households are wired for cable. Though that translates to some 64 million households, isn’t it nice to know that somewhere out there are 32 million or so households that remain blissfully ignorant of such things as the Home Shopping Network, made-for-USA-cable movies, and the Paula Poundstone Show on the Comedy Channel?

Another interesting stat from the book: Illinois has 598 cable systems, ranking it behind only Texas (851) and ahead of California (366) and New York (248).
