Leave it to the French to come up with a chic way to shape up after giving birth.
At the spa Thalassa Quiberon on the Brittany coast of France, new mothers are a new target client. With their babies in tow, they are welcomed at the posh resort (a favorite destination for Catherine Deneuve and Jane Fonda) for a special postpartum pampering program.
While baby is cared for by a spa-supplied caregiver (or you can bring your own for no extra cost) moms can immerse themselves in a medically supervised, six-day soothing and slimming program.
The regimen includes “curative” water-based body treatments, a day in a flotation pool, gentle postpartum exercises, massages and figure-conscious seafood cuisine.
A perk for your baby: a mini-massage.
The cost is a not-so-budget-minded $200 to $400 per day and babies must be 3 months to 8 months old to participate.
For those who can’t jump on the Concorde, mom/baby indulgences are starting to crop up in the United States.
At the Canyon Ranch spa in Tucson, Ariz., for example, moms traveling with a baby and a nanny (who receives a special discount day rate for meals and stays free in the mother’s room) can participate in post-natal exercise workshops.
“We’ve started to get requests from new moms who find that a spa is a great place not only to get back in shape, but to get away from all the business of home right after the birth,” says Katie Penner, Canyon Ranch spokeswoman.”It’s a way to recoup physically and emotionally with privacy.”
The cost for Canyon Ranch: about $2,000 for four days. Call 520-749-9655.
