Harvard School District 50 will once again offer summer school courses.
Students can take classes in art, computer keyboarding, Indian culture and history, English, algebra and American history.
The district retooled the program after offering it for the first time in several years last summer. But the district found there were too many classes offered and not enough students, said Sue Smith, the district’s school improvement coordinator.
“The basic difference (this year) is there is not a whole lot at the elementary level except for the tutoring program,” Smith said. “At the high school level we have more credit courses.”
The district will not make a profit from the program. Tuition covers teachers’ and custodians’ salaries. Tuition has not increased from last year, Smith said.
New classes to be offered this summer are driver’s education for high school students and a word-processing class for middle school students.
The deadline for registration is Monday. For more information, call Smith at 815-943-6125.
